VIETNAM CYCLING CHALLENGE 2007

The fantastic camaraderie and support of the whole team is what makes taking part on a Macmillan Challenge such a fabulous and special experience.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Rupa Pattni, London

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. It provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care. Cancer affects us all. We can all help.

My hubby Mehul Pattni, son of Mrs Bhartiben and Mr Rajendrabhai Narshidas Ghaghada,  has recently taken on the challenge of cycling 700km across Vietnam in aid of McMillan Cancer (Crazy......I know!)

Between 3-15 November 2007, he will be joining around 60 people cycling through the remote and traditional north of Vietnam as part of Macmillan Cancer Support's Vietnam Cycling Challenge. They will be cycling for 8 consecutive days and covering just over 700km, and it promises to be an extremely testing physical challenge, cycling over undulating countryside and in all weathers.

In order for Mehul to take part in the challenge he is required to raise a minimum of £3,000 which will enable McMillan to both organise and benefit from the funds raised. Cancer is something that has had an impact on my family, and unfortunately most people know someone that have also been affected by it so I am sure that you will agree that this is a really good cause.

If you are interested in supporting this event I would urge you to visit Mehul's 'Just Giving' site (link attached) in order to make your donation. Please feel free to pass this message on to family and friends- every penny counts!

Vietnam
Cycling Challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support, 3 Nov-15 Nov 2007

Between 3-15 November 2007, I will be joining around 60 people cycling through the remote and traditional north of Vietnam as part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Vietnam Cycling Challenge. We will be cycling for 8 consecutive days and covering just over 700km.

It promises to be an extremely testing physical challenge, cycling over undulating countryside and in all weathers. The event, and the months of preparation and training, will be tough but I am doing this in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support (reg charity no 261017).

Each and every day 739 people in the UK are told they have cancer. More than one million people in the UK today have had a cancer diagnosis, and more than one in three will be diagnosed at some time in their life. As well as taking action today to support people from the moment they suspect they have cancer, Macmillan are shaping the future of cancer care. Their increasing range of services, including Macmillan nurses, doctors and other health and social care professionals, cancer care centres, a range of cancer information, practical help at home and help with money, is funded entirely through the generosity of their supporters. Thanks to the support they receive, Macmillan provides the practical and emotional support which makes a real difference to people living with cancer today – and tomorrow.

I have to raise a minimum of £3,000 to take part in the event, of which at least 64% will benefit Macmillan Cancer Support. I hope to raise much more than this and hope that you will consider sponsoring me in my challenge, which I am aware is a very minor one compared with the challenge that cancer patients face each day.

If you are able to support me in my challenge, please visit

http://www.justgiving.com/mezcharitycycle

Many thanks,

Yours sincerely

WASHINGTON - NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate has amended its NASA Research Announcement to solicit additional research proposals. The "Research Opportunities in Aeronautics" announcement solicits research in several new topic areas for the Intelligent Flight Deck Technology Project, Subsonic Rotary Wing Project and the Supersonics Project.

The long-term goal of the Intelligent Flight Deck Technology Project is to advance knowledge by developing tools, methods, principles, guidelines and technologies for revolutionary adaptive flight deck systems that improve safety. This includes developing technologies that mitigate operator-, automation- and environment-induced hazards for future operational concepts.

The challenge of the Subsonic Rotary Wing Project is to develop validated physics-based multidisciplinary design and analysis tools for rotorcraft, integrated with technology development, enabling rotorcraft with advanced capabilities to fly as designed for any mission.

The Supersonics Project is a broad-based effort designed to develop knowledge, capabilities and technologies that support all vehicles that fly in the supersonic speed regime.

NASA plans to announce additional research topics in other project areas in the near future. For updates, check NASA's Research Opportunities Web site at:

An International Exchange Program for Young Professionals

People just like you from all over the world . . . . . . are furthering international understanding, goodwill and peace.

What is Group Study Exchange?

The Group Study Exchange (GSE) program of The Rotary Foundation is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 and in the early years of their professional lives. The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits between paired areas in different countries. For four to six weeks, team members experience the host country's institutions and ways of life, observe their own vocations as practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.

For each team member, The Rotary Foundation provides the most economical round-trip air ticket between the home and host countries. Local Rotarians in the host area provide for meals, lodging, and group travel within their district.

Dear Pattni Members

From Editor

India Revive Project

Our Proud Parajiya Pattni community has always been at the fore front of community service. This is an ideal opportunity for our budding Pattni actors, singers, dancers and those with technical knowledge in sound/lighting etc to get together and help in this very worthwhile cause.
Volunteers, who wish to help, are requested to contact Chetan Narotambhai by e-mail -
czimagine@gmail.com.

Please note - Ideally it would be better for Pattni members who are from London as the group will will need frequent rehearsals and meetings, and would be quite impractical to ask people to come from outside London on a weekly basis.  –

From Chetan Narotambhai Pattni, London:-

We need some help with a project, basically me and 2 of my friends are co-ordinating and producing a theatrical performance, scheduled for multiple performances around Oct-Dec 2006. It is set to be a big project and so we have already got the wheels in motion. The 3 co-ordinators are I, and the others are my friends from the university.

We are trying to market our production in order to find budding actors, singers, dancers, people with technical knowledge with regards to sound/lighting etc. who can help out with it. We are ideally looking for actors who can talk and understand Hindi.

The entire project is for charity, therefore the show will require ticket purchases, but everyone who takes part in the production must understand from the outset that it is a voluntary position; no one is being paid, including myself and the other two coordinators.

There is a school in India which houses and provides education for blind children. Currently it holds around 15 children, but the premises are not that good. Essentially, it resembles a shanty house from the outside. They aim to make a proper school for these children, and to expand their accommodation to around 100 boys & girls. This is the cause that our proceeds will go towards. We realise that we may not be able to help with the entire funding, depending on the success of the final show, but we feel that anything that we can do will be a help to those who need it.

We have set up a website for those who might be interested, www.indiarevive.co.uk please feel free to take a look at it for further information about the whole project.

We wish to appeal to anyone who has any ideas of anyone who can help participate in this? We shall appreciate if it is possible to post a message about it on the Pattni Connection site and also mention in the next newsletter. I would really appreciate any help you could provide with this, I think it would be great if we could all help towards this worthy cause.

Please let me know of any ideas or people who can help.

Thanks again,

Regards

Chetan

P.S. We have been busy the past week organising a preliminary get-together of people who may be interested in taking part, which took place on Saturday, 17th December. I and the other two co-ordinators have a meeting every week, so we are trying to arrange meetings with people who want to take part.

Further such meetings will be scheduled in Jan. I appreciate your interest in this project and would be grateful for any help you can provide. We have the India Revive website, and have made this information page so people can read the info first, then if they are interested, they can find more detailed information on the website.

I have attached the file to this email.

Thanks again for your help!

Chetan.

Logo Gallery

Dear Members
So at last we now have the chance to show off our talented Pattnis. We are indeed delighted to open this Logo Gallery for everyone to see and appreciate the creative talents of our Proud Parajiya Pattnis who have taken tremendous effort to make these Logos. Each and everyone is the winner.

All entrants told us that they are keener to take an active part, to participate and be part of our website rather than the Logo competition. Thus we have decided not to install a voting machine. It is our intention to eventually use all these Logo somewhere in the website.

With such a worldwide support, our website has now become a truly Global website for Parajiya Pattni members.

SPEED DATING - Jiten Rasiklal Pattni - London

I was happy to know that we have now got a dedicated Pattni site where we, the youths will get an opportunity to voice our opinion, discuss and also get to know other youths. The reason why our youths are getting married outside our community is purely due to lack of contact within. I sincerely wish this new website will give us a medium to contact other youths and also make new friends.

ABOUT MARRIAGE PROCESS

For many decades from past to present, our community members have relied upon the traditional approach of matchmaking for the youth (boys and girls) also known as arranged marriages/love marriages (?Maangu natkhwanu? usually done through a third person)

As our Samaj’s youth is progressing at a great speed and with changing times, it is proving difficult for our parents/guardians to find a suitable match for their sons and daughters.

Although this process had been fairly successful process in matching making fellow boys and girls together in the past a new way has to be found to make contact. It has been noted that the youth of the today would like to adopt a speed dating service within the Samaj. This will allow boys and girls to get acquainted and establish whether their future partner could be in the speed dating process. Many other communities do organise such events within their Samaj.

HOW TO MAKE SPEED DATING WORK?

I would like to propose is to kick start the speed dating process by having singles nights regularly at various PPA social events at designated venue. This will allow opportunities for girls and boys of our community to mingle, to get to know one another. The speed dating will work in the form of a raffle ticket system whereby a certain number will be duplicated for each boy and girl. When entering the venue each boy and girl will be given a ticket and later when the MC makes an announcement the boy or girl with that number called out must go and find their match.

Our community should encourage our youths and also organise such events under their supervision. I would request other youths to express their opinions regarding this matter through this site’s discussion forum.

Regards

Jiten Rasiklal Pattni
