ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

An AGM was held on Sunday 11th July 2010 at 11am at Pattni Samaj Building where the election was held to elect a new committee and a dinner was held thereafter. It’s nice to see Mombasa Samaj, although very small in numbers but still very active. Details and photo of the AGM are posted on the website.

Mombasa Samaj participated in seven a side football tournament

Hindu Council of Kenya Mombasa branch organised a seven a side football tournament where our youth took part in the tournament alongside 16 other teams of Hindu communities. Photos are posted on the website.

PPA Luton & MK honours Sunilbhai Dhanak at a dinner at Alankar Restaurant.

A reception dinner was held at the Alankar restaurant in Sunilbhai’s honour. Photos of Sunilbhai with the Samaj Committee and members are uploaded on the website.

Unfortunately I had to send my apologies for not being able to attend either the dinner at Alankar or the picnic that was organized by the PPA Luton.

Vice-President Ashish Chandulal Pattni has informed by phone that there was a good turnout at the picnic. Secretary Vipin Ranchodas Challa advised that he hoped to send pictures of the picnic soon.

Sunilbhai Dhanak was also given a warm welcome in London as my chief guest where we had delicious appetizers and a barbecue party that was attended by several invited Pattni members.

Lots of discussions took place around various Samaj issues including the forthcoming Student Award’s ceremony, launch of new Rajkot website and a launch of forthcoming Matrimonial on line for Pattni members. Details are posted on the website.

Chinmaya Mission UK - Musical Drama on Shri Krishna

Chinmaya Mission UK is staging a Janmashtami celebrations on the 2nd of September with a musical drama inspired by the life of Shree Krishna. Details of the programme and ticket information are posted on the website.

We have also posted the letter of appreciation sent by the Mombasa Soni Samaj to Nairobi Pattni Brotherhood Committee.

There is a saying that "A picture is worth a thousand words". I am sure that these memorable photos will bring back a lot of memories to a lot of people. From the responses that I have received in the past, seeing loved ones photos on the website many of you have become quite emotional. I am sure seeing these photos are going to be the “Talk of Town” for many coming weeks.

This was a challenging and a hard task for me to bring out the best in all the photos to capture the history of our Samaj. I have tried to repair and restore some of the photos to their former glory and bring back those fond memories.

Note: With so many names to write underneath each photo, errors are inevitable. We also need to write full names including Sankh. Please do let me know where you can suggest corrections.

Mira Bhayandar, Mumbai - Shree Samasta Parajiya Pattani Soni Gnati Mandal

President Rameshbhai Luhar of Mira Bhayandar, Mumbai Samaj informed us that they held the 5th Educational Ceremony (Shree Tejasvi Vidhyarthi Saraswati Sanman Samaroh) at J.H. Poddar High School, Bhayandar (W), Dist. Thane, on 6th June, 2010 Sunday, to distribute Note Books with School Stationery & School Bags to the students of our community at free of cost.  Students are also awarded with Shield Momento, Gold & Silver Medals & Certificates.

Rath Yatra 2010 in Leicester

PPA - Leicester Committee members participates in the Rathyatra

Europe’s second largest annual Rath Yatra festival took place in Leicester on Sunday 1st August 2010. PPA Leicester committee members Madhu Dhanak and Bhanuben Dhanak took a prominent part in the Rath Yatra.

Bhanuben and Hemantbhai Dhanak’s granddaughter took part as Radha Krishna. Photos and a video are posted in the News Section on the website.

Tele Conference Meeting with the Pattni Brotherhood Committee, Nairobi

I was delighted to receive a phone call during their committee meeting that was held tonight in Nairobi, and talk to President Vijaybhai Ghaghada, Secretary Bhaskerbhai Dhanak and Lalitbhai Mulji Pattni. I am glad and honoured to receive a personal invitation from the committee to come and attend their forthcoming functions to the Opening ceremony of the P.J. Shopping Mall and to celebrate 21 years of Pattni Brotherhood Hall.

The committee has extended their invitation to all Pattni members to come and attend the joyous occasion.

Correction in Pattni Brotherhood 1976 Committee Photo

In the photo of 1976, of the then Pattni Brotherhood committee, sitting left to right the person no. 4 is Dr Bhikhu Ladhabhai Vaya and not my brother (Dhirajlal Ladhabhai). The name is amended on the website.

Dr Bhikhu was the youngest treasurer in the history of Pattni Brotherhood at the time and for him, it was an honour to sit with all the other eminent and illustrious persons in the photograph. Sadly some of them have left us with their good memories.

Health Alert - Aloe Vera Juice

Two women were seriously ill after drinking aloe vera juice. The victims, one aged 60 and the other in her 40s, suffered a severe reaction when they drank the aloe vera juice they bought at a school fair. One collapsed into a ' vegetative state', according to her daughter, and had to be revived by paramedics.

We asked our ‘resident’ doctor Dr Bhikhu Pattni for his valued opinion on Aloe Vera.

Newsletter No 164 - Bumper Edititon

Well I have to say, it has been a rather a hectic fortnight for me socially as well as on the website.

Thank you so much for all your good wishes on our daughter Priya’s engagement to Umesh. They were very much appreciated by our family and by our vevai Mahendrabhai’s family.

There was also a technical problem with our Mailing software which I am glad to say is now sorted out. So we are now able to resume normal updating with this bumper edition newsletter. Part 2 will be uploaded within next few days.

Peruvian Inca Trail Challenge 2010 - Donate generously

In September 2010 Rupa will be making her way to Peru to complete the Inca Trail Challenge to raise money for the 'Railway Children' charity.

Inca Trail is the tough and most challenging that takes 4 days to complete, and encompasses 3 high mountain passes, trekking up to 11km on a single day. The 'Railway Children' and Rupa would be really grateful for any donation you wish to make, regardless of how big or small. Details are on the website.

Selfless Service to Humanity

13 sewing machines were donated to Pattni sisters and mothers in Amereli and 6 in Rajkot. The total amount used for charitable purposes was about Rs.15 lakh or approximately $32,500. The area covered included Rajkot, Jamnagar, Dhoraji, Veraval, Upleta, Jetpur, Amreli and approximately 100 villages near Rajkot.
