PBH Trustees with the Outgoing Committee
AGM 2015 Report Pattni Brotherhood, Nairobi Annual General Meeting of Pattni Brotherhood, Nairobi was held on Saturday, 14th March, 2015 at Manama Hall, Pattni Brotherhood at 6.30pm. Never in the history of Pattni Brotherhood did we have two dynamic teams vying to contest the elections. This past week, Nairobi Pattni members from virtually all households were busy organizing professional meetings/demos, actively soliciting votes via emails,Facebook, WhatsApp, telephones. The flurry of activities and the campaigning strategies resembled tempo that one witnesses in country level elections. The outgoing executive committee, together with two representatives each from both aspirant teams and all the Hon. trustees, held several sessions at the Samaj to lay out the framework and iron out any differences concerning the electoral process. Several issues concerning the registration and the eligibility of Pattni voters, age limits, proxy votes, time limits for the voter registration etc were debated vigorously ( sometimes with passions running haywire and with heated exchanges!). The level of professionalism displayed by both aspirant teams with power point presentations, issuance of sleek pamphlets detailing each of the team member's achievements and qualifications, was really impressive.
The AGM started sharp at 7.00 pm with Pattni Brotherhood hall filled to capacity. Virtually all the families (including elderly Pattni members in wheelchairs) were present to exercise their democratic rights and the excitement was palpable! The mood and the atmosphere at the Samaj was akin to being present in American Democratic or Republican National Convention with one aspirant team supporters coming in orange t-shirts and assorted paraphernalia!! We even had one international observer from Jamnagar Samaj present to witness the proceedings. Healthy Election After the outgoing committee presented their reports and stepped down, the Trustees took over and the election process started. One team was led by Shree Sureshbhai Vrajlal Ghaghada and the other team by Shree Dipakbhai Jivanlal Soni. Both CM candidates were given 10 minutes each to introduce themselves and their team members formally to the general body and present their vision for the future growth of Pattni Brotherhood. A polling station with one Trustee, Shree Prabhudas Govindji, together with two ex-commitee members and two representatives each from both aspirant teams were overseeing the correct procedure of checking the identity of voters and issuing of ballot cards. (Ballot cards printed professionally with security coding, courtesy of Nagin Pattni) The election was done by secret ballot whereby the voter had to collect his/her ballot card, go to either of the two curtained booths specially erected nearby, tick/mark the box under the CM candidate of their choice and then proceed to a sealed box stationed at the main high table where 3 other Hon. Trustees ( Shree Chandubhai Gordhandas, Shree Harshadbhai Rana and Shree Govindbhai Jeram) were present, cast the ballot card inside and then proceed for dinner. The fifth Hon. Trustee, Shree Prabhudas Damjibhai had submitted his apologies for his absence due to health.
Indeed, as predicted, it was a very closely contested election - but, inevitably, there has to only one winner. The shoutings and the cheering from the respective team supporters almost drowned out the Returning Officers announcements of the results. By a razor thin margin, Shree Sureshbhai Vrajlal Ghaghada was declared the winner and pronounced the new incoming Chairman of Shree Pattni Brotherhood by the Hon. Trustees. On behalf of the outgoing committee under the chairmanship of Shree Vijaybhai Prabhudas Ghaghada having served the Samaj for 12 continuous years, I congratulate both Mr. Sureshbhai and Dipakbhai for having conducted very professional and democratic campaigns and especially roping in the youth in their teams and indicting them into the Samaj. The Gujarati term would be - Pattni youth became JAGRUT towards the Samaj. A Big Thanks to the Trustees I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all the Hon. Trustees of Pattni Brotherhood for their esteemed guidance and time that you bestowed to our Committee. The treasures that we as a committee learnt on Samaj protocols/relations would be tenemount to a pHd from the worlds topmost universities! A Big Thanks to Pattni Connection Also, on behalf of my outgoing committee, i sincerely thank Mr. Pranlal Chhaganlal Dhanak, the webmaster/editor of Pattni Connection for supporting our committee and putting Pattni Brotherhood and its activities on the world stage. Our sincere appreciation to our sister organization, Shree Parajiya Pattni Samaj, Mombasa - for all your steadfast support and encouragement throughout our tenure. Your hospitality and warmth during our frequent visits to our beloved Mombasa cannot be reciprocated by anybody. Shree Bharatbhai and your Team - a v big Asante Sana!! Mombasa Raha!!!! A Big Thanks to Worldwide Pattni Samaj I would also like to convey our highest regards and greetings to Akhil Bhartiya Federation, all the worldwide Pattni Samaj Chairmen and their committees ( especially Mumbai Samaj, Dwarka Wadi, Jamnagar Samaj, Rajkot Mahamandal, Amreli Wadi, Surat Samaj, UAE Samaj, PPA London, PPA Luton, PPA Leicester, PPA Birmingham, USA/Canada Pattni Samaj. S.Africa Soni (Durban)Samaj, DarEsSalaam Samaj, Kampala Pattni Association, Nakuru, Eldoret amongst many others). Thank you for supporting and standing with us in forming the World Pattni Federation. We will treasure and cherish all the memories of your visits to Nairobi and thank you for hosting myself and members of Vijaybhai's committee on our visits to your cities. Pattni Brotherhood Nairobi remains steadfast in its committment towards a unified World Pattni Federation. After all, the seed for the Federation was planted in Nairobi!!! A Big Thanks to All With all humbleness, we thank the General body of Pattni Brotherhood Nairobi for putting all their trust and support on us for the past 12 years to serve our Samaj. With Shree Wagheshwari Maa's blessings, we served the Samaj to the best of our abilities and firmly placed Pattni Brotherhood on the World map. I must not forget Mr. Mutua, our Samaj caretaker for his dedicated service to the Samaj - in fact, he's the longest serving member of our Samaj than most Pattnis! If, in our jest to serve the Samaj, we inadvertently hurt anybody's sentiments during our tenure, we truly convey our regrets and apologies to the bereaved party. A Big Thanks to our Team Last, but not least, i thank my fellow committee members ( Vijaybhai Ghaghada, Rameshbhai Ghaghada, Hirenbhai Vaya, Suryakant Challa, Naynaben Dhakan, Manojbhai Vaya, Chandubhai Kagdada, Kishorbhai Dhanak, Unnatbhai Challa, Riteshbhai Dhanak). 12 years bonds that we built will always be entrenched in our hearts. It was a pleasure working with you - our sentiments are that we all form lifelong extended family! Hats off to the entire Nairobi Pattni Samaj!
Never in the history of our Samaj, there has been such a vibrant and responsive democracy as shown at PBH, Nairobi.
It was like a carnival atmosphere where virtually all the families (including elderly Pattni members in wheelchairs) were present to exercise their democratic rights. PBH has indeed set new benchmarks that have taken our Samaj to a new level.
This is all thanks to the wise guidance of the Trustee elders and the dynamic leadership by the Pattni Brotherhood committee, for making progress in leaps and bounds.
I thank the outgoing committee for their kind words for Pattni Connection. It had been my privilege to have served the PBH Committee.
