From Editor/Webmaster:

Like father, like son: Rameshbhai follows in his father's footsteps

Rameshbhai’s father, Mohanbhai Nathoobhai Ghaghada was a pioneering founder member of what we now call the Parajiya Pattni Association (PPA). He took over the role of President and retained the post until 1979. Now Rameshbhai has followed his father’s footsteps to lead the community.

New president and a new committee will inevitably result in new ideas and new enthusiasm. It is nice to see to see the past office bearer remain in the new committee.

I am sure that under Rameshbhai’s leadership the new committee will harness all these experiences and play pivotal role regionally, nationally and also internationally.

As a coordinating committee member, on behalf of the Federation, I invite Rameshbhai and the PPA Leicester committee to play a leading role to represent Team GB (Great Britain) at the next world gathering.

Once again, congratulations to President Rameshbhai Mohanlal Nathoobhai and the new committee.

Pattni Connection website is fully at the committee’s disposal to promote its activities.

History of Parajiya Pattni Association – Leicester Region

The roots of the Parajiya Pattni Association stretch back to 1972. It is forty one years ago since Idi Amin arbitrarily decided to expel Asian resident in Uganda. Given only 90 days to leave, most were forced to abandon homes and businesses, taking with them only what they could carry.

Our Parajiya Pattni community and families were uprooted and separated at the whim of the unpredictable military dictator Idi Amin. Of those expelled, most of the Pattni members found refuge in Britain.

Those were difficult times; many of the Pattni members settled in Leicester and through their hard work made a huge and positive contribution to the society.

Soni Mohanlal Nathoobhai Ghaghada and his family were one of the families who moved to settled in Leicester.

Birth of Parajiya Pattni Association

It did not take long before Mohanbhai saw the need of an Association for the benefit of the growing community of Parajiyas in the UK. His community spirit awakened to form an Association.

The first meeting of the Parajiya Pattnis was then held at Govindji Madhavji Kagadadia’s home, and the Parajiya Association was formed. Kantilal Morarjibhai was elected as our first President. The Parajiya Association later changed its name to what we now call Parajiya Pattni Association (PPA).

The first PPA gathering was in 1974 at the Holiday Inn in Leicester. Mohanbhai then took over the role of President and retained the post until 1979.

History of PPA Leicester Region since 2005

Pattni Connection website since launched in 2015, has served four PPA Leicester Region committees.

2005- Ashwinbhai Govindji Kagadadia was the President of PPA Leicester region at the time. He and his committee’s immense support played a vital role to ensure the success of Pattni Connection website.

2007 - Bhavnaben Uday Kagadada was elected in 2007 as the president. Ashwinbhai stepped down but continued to serve as the trustee. Bhavnaben’s effective administration with a friendly smile won over the community’s confidence to serve the Leicester region.

2009 - On 7th June 2009, Madhuben Navin Dhanak took over the presidency. Her committee was the first UK region to give me along with Prasident Kantibhai Ghaghada of Jamnagar Samaj the great honour to be their chief guest. The Leicester committee’s memento given to me of Lord Ganesh still is proudly displayed along side with mementoes gifts given by other Pattni Samajs on the fireplace mantelpiece in recognition for the service to the community. 2011 – At the AGM called on 4th September 2011, the new president Swati Madhavji was elected. Her committee was the host to the last year’s 2012 National Diwali function.

Bharti Dilip Harji served diligently as the Hon. Secretary for two terms under both presidents Madhuben and Swati.

Ashwinbhai’s service to the community

Ashwinbhai Govindji has a long standing family history serving our community so his roots are deeply ingrained. Ashwinbhai has served as the PPA National President, Regional president and as a trustee for many years. He has decided to step down now. I am sure the whole Parajiya Pattni Soni community worldwide will applaud his contribution to our Pattni Samaj.

Best Wishes to Leicester

It has been a pleasure to work with all four PPA Leicester committees. Some of the members have sent messages that they now wish to step down. I would like to extend my best wishes to all present and past committee members, many of us have now become part of one big family.

I look forward to meeting and working with the new committee.
