Late Shantaben Mathuradas Gokaldas Dhanak

Everyone knew her as Baa. Our beloved mother Late Shantaben Mathuradas Gokaldas, aged 88 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday 28th November 2006. (Indian calendar – Magshar Sud Atam, Durgashtmi 2063) in London

Allow me to give a brief background of our beloved mother.

Shantaben, daughter of Late Shree Sunderjibhai Kara Challa was born in India in the town Jamkandorna. She was married to Late Shree Mathuradas Gokaldas Morarji Dhanak at a young age as it was customary then.

At the age of 25, in 1943 our beloved parents left India and settled in Mombasa, Kenya, where they set up a jewellery shop. Sadly, in 1960 our father passed away and since then our mother took sole responsibility in bringing up the family of 3 sons and 5 daughters.

After 31 years in Kenya, in 1972, our family moved permanently to the UK. Since arriving in London she has travelled to many different places. A keen devotee, she frequently visited Shree Gayatri Mandir in Hendon where she was popular. She always remained remarkably strong and self reliant.

Our mother Shantaben's good spirits and warm heart will be forever remembered and well missed. She leaves behind her large family which consists of 3 sons and 5 daughters along with many grand and great grand children.

We sincerely thank all our relatives, friends and well wishers for being with us during this difficult time.

Jai Shree Krishna
