The history of South Asians in East Africa.

Erasmus University, Rotterdam has undertaken a research project on the history of S. Asians in E. Africa.
Hindus, Muslims, Parsees, Sikhs and Goans have a long history in E. Africa. The streaming video shows parts of interviews with respected members of the Indian community telling ‘their own story’ in ‘their own words'. For further reading visit their site www.asiansinafrica.com
The video contains various materials related to aged families still living in East Africa. It includes an interview with Manilal Dewani, the former mayor of Dar-es-Salaam. He talks about the migration of his parents and family to Zanzibar and East-Africa, between 1890-1920. In addition there is an interview with Andy Chande about the Nationalisation of Industries in Tanganyika in the late nineteen sixties and early nineteen seventies.
